  3.     A SYSOP'S REVIEW OF THE C-NET BBS

  6.  The C-Net BBS is without a doubt one of the most powerfull BBS programs
  7. available today at a reasonable price. The potential of this program in terms 
  8. of features, Sysop control, and size is, other than disk space, unlimited.
  9.  The choice of disk drives and modems you can use with this software is very
  10. flexable. Up to twenty message bases and the same amount of file exchanges are
  11. possible along with a text file section (read only) and a "P" file section 
  12. which will allow users to play on-line games and give the Sysop access to
  13. system maintenance features (using program 'modules')
  14.  
  15.  The main program, as are the modules, is written in basic which makes it very
  16. easy to customize the board to suit your own needs.
  17.  In order for the program to utilize some of these features it must access the
  18. disk drive and load 'PROGRAM MODULES' which are then 'Overlaid' onto the main
  19. program in memory. This feature is what makes the C-Net so powerfull. A number
  20. of these modules comes with the software when purchased but the BEST ones are    ritten by the users of this system and are in the public domain.

  22.  The system message editor is the best i have ever seen on a BBS. It has all
  23. the features of a full featured word processor (plus some IE: Color/Graphics).
  24. as a matter of fact there are so many features in the editor i sometimes
  25. forget what they all are.

  27.  Version 10.0, which this review is based on, supports CBM Color and lower
  28. case graphics and any non-cbm ascii computer. The file transfer protocols are
  29. NEW-PUNTER and X-MODEM (checksum) w    ch are selected automaticly depending on
  30. which computer the person who calls the board is using.
  31.  Documentation on V10.0 is very good (61 pages both sides). VERSION 11.0 is
  32. now available but i would not recommend this version to anyone at this time
  33.  The version (11.0) that i recieved was plagued with bugs of all sorts and
  34. even had some features that would not work. To say the least, I was very
  35. disapointed.
  36.  User support is very poor....After leaving 5 to 6 messages in feedback on the
  37. 'HOME' board (FUTURE     RLD) i recieved only one reply and even then i did not
  38. have my question's answered. (this was very frustrating as this was long
  39. distance). The download section has a special section for registered C-Net
  40. Sysops. I found this section to be poorly maintained and contained many
  41. files that would not even load let alone run. It was obvious that these files
  42. were not tested before putting them up for downloading.

  44.  All in all, I have to give the C-Net bbs a 3 1/2 star rating. I have in the
  45. past run the HAL, RIBIT    RAVICS, 6485, INFOQUICK and many other bbs systems
  46. and keep coming back to the C-Net. If the boys at FUTURE WORLD (PERSPECTIVE
  47. SOFTWARE) would clean up there act and fix v11.0, instead of sending it out in
  48. the condition it is in and give some user support...C-Net would be #1..
  49. bar none !!!
